A native of Thunder Bay, Joanne works out of her home in winter and her studio on Cloud Lake in summer. She makes one-of-a kind sculptures and wheel thrown functional ware.
My studio is at our camp – a simple, rustic, and private spot at the bottom of a huge cliff. From my potting wheel, I have a wonderful view through the large window where I watch the seasons change over the lake from early spring to late fall. Here I make mugs and such from a red stoneware clay and fire them in a small kiln. I bring my pots to dry down by the shore where it is always breezy.
My raku birds are hand-built and fired here as well, with the smoking buckets just outside the door.
